The Histories of King Kelson and the Heirs of Camber are probably my favorite trilogies in the Deryni series. Bishop's Heir keeps the action moving, but is more believable than some of the scenes in some of the preceding trilogies, as the protagonists don't just sit around waiting for the villains to punch them in the face and instead use at least some of their resources to anticipate and counter their machinations. Kurtz's writing style was well-developed by the time she arrived at this one, the descriptions vivid and right out of medieval life. The themes of hate and intolerance remain regretfully relevant today. One can read this trilogy without reading its predecessors, but it's better to read them in the narrative order, then you catch some of the small things. An entertaining and good read.
